The Best Collagen for Menopause in the UK: 17 Picks, Ranked

Qualified Nutritionist
We ranked 17 UK collagens for menopause on five weighted criteria, checking each dose against the 5g bone trial and the cost per day. By a nutritionist.

Collagen is a daily nutrition habit, not a menopause treatment, and if you want one, buy Ancient + Brave True Collagen at £32, the winner of this best collagen for menopause ranking.
The best collagen for menopause for most women is Ancient + Brave True Collagen, a single-ingredient Type I bovine powder at £32 from the brand's UK store. If bone health is your main concern, Pura Collagen balance gives you 5,000mg of FORTIBONE collagen peptides, the same 5g daily amount studied in a 12-month trial in postmenopausal women, at £45 for 28 servings.
I know the question behind your search: you want to keep your skin, joints and bones in good shape through menopause with one sensible habit, not a cupboard of pots. Collagen can be part of that, but the evidence is promising rather than settled, and HRT is a separate conversation with your GP. The NHS page on menopause treatment sets out the options.
We ranked 17 collagen supplements you can buy in the UK on five weighted criteria (formula quality and dose, verified trust signals, fit for menopause, buying experience, and value per day), using prices and labels checked on each brand's UK store on 3 October 2026 and the published trials on collagen in postmenopausal women. We compared every dose against the 5g used in the bone trial. You can read more in our testing methodology.
“I am a BANT member with a dipNT from the College of Naturopathic Medicine, and my practice focuses on hormones. I did not test these products.”
How We Ranked Collagen for Menopause
We scored every product on five things and weighted them so that no single figure could carry the result, and you can check the sums yourself. Product quality carries 25 per cent: the collagen form, the dose per serving against the 5g used in the bone trial, and how clean the formula is. Verified trust carries 30 per cent, which is the heaviest weight on purpose.
Supplement labels and claims vary more than anything else in this category, so trust has to count for the most. It means a published full ingredient list with doses, named branded peptides, sourcing disclosure, batch testing or certification, and claims that stay inside what the evidence supports. A tub that hides its doses cannot earn your trust, however good the packaging looks.
Fit for the job carries 15 per cent: how relevant the product is to menopause goals of skin, bone and joints, and how practical the format is for you. Service reality carries 10 per cent: a UK store selling in GBP, UK availability and subscription flexibility. Value carries 20 per cent, and it means price per day worked out from a verified price and serving count, never the price alone.
| Criterion | Weight | What It Measures Here |
|---|---|---|
| Product quality | 25% | Collagen form, amount per serving against the 5g trial amount, how clean the label is |
| Verified trust | 30% | Published ingredient list and doses, named branded peptides, sourcing disclosure, batch testing or certification, claims kept within the evidence |
| Fit for the job | 15% | How relevant the product is to your goals, and how practical the format is |
| Service reality | 10% | UK store in GBP, UK retailer availability, subscription flexibility |
| Value | 20% | Price per day from verified price and serving count |
Trust separates this field more than any other criterion, with scores running from 6 to 9, while quality scores run from 6 to 8. Ancient + Brave leads on trust because it states its sourcing, its B Corp status and its batch testing in one place. You can reproduce every position from the weights above.
Two ties needed breaking, and you can see how. Revive Collagen Menopause Max and Vida Glow Natural Marine Collagen both scored 6.50, and Revive took fifteenth place because it scores 9 on fit for the job against Vida Glow's 6, and fit is the menopause-specific criterion. The same rule put Pura Collagen balance above Planet Paleo Pure Collagen Powder, which both scored 7.90, because Pura scores 10 on fit against Planet Paleo's 6.
Two points of honesty before you read on. Three of the 17 (KIKI Health, Innermost and Hunter & Gather) have an affiliate route, and they rank fourth, seventh and fifth because their scores put them there. Where we describe a brand's own trial or marketing claim, we attribute it to the brand, and we did not test these products ourselves: the ranking rests on labels, prices and published trials.
Shop from the Top 3 Collagen Supplements for Menopause
The three cost about £0.80, £1.61 and £0.77 a day, and each answers a different goal. Ancient + Brave is the plain powder for most of you, Pura is the one built around the bone-trial dose, and Planet Paleo is the lab-tested bovine powder for value.
The other 14 each win a narrower job, so pick the one that matches your goal.
KIKI Health is the marine option for your skin, Hunter & Gather is the unflavoured grass-fed bovine powder, Correxiko is the high-dose marine powder, Innermost is the all-in-one sachet, and Bulk is the budget flavoured tub. Revive Peri Menopause and Revive Menopause Max are the menopause formulas, Noble Collagen is the type II capsule for joints, and Absolute Collagen, Gold Collagen and Vida Glow cover the liquid and sachet formats. All prices were checked on 3 October 2026.
What Women in Menopause Say about Collagen
Ask women who already take collagen what decides whether they keep going, and the answer is rarely the science. It is cost per month, taste, and lumps in the glass. Four voices from a Mumsnet menopause thread say it in their own words, and you will probably recognise your own kitchen in them.
OrangeSpaghetti, on the Mumsnet menopause board, takes collagen in Greek yoghurt and has worked out the monthly cost:
“…That seems expensive for elavate, mine worked out at £22/month when I bought it.”
penguinfacebum, on the same Mumsnet thread, struggled with the taste of a bulk-brand powder until someone suggested a trick:
“…Taste is gross. But someone suggested adding it to vitamin c effervescent tablet drink thingy and it is a total game changer.”
TicketyBoo11, on the same thread, researched collagen for joint pain and reached a conclusion about type:
“…as I have menopausal/age related osteoarthritis in my knees, hands and feet…For joint and bone support you need Type 2 collagen.”
Hadalifeonce, on the same thread, solved the lumps problem with a gadget:
“I use the whizzy thing as soon as I put the powder in the water, otherwise I do get lumps.”
Each of these is a practical question you can answer, and the sections below do. We give the cost per day wherever the listing lets us work it out, we explain type I and type II collagen without endorsing the conclusion in the third quote, and we give you ways to keep taking it that do not depend on willpower.
The 17 Best Collagen Supplements for Menopause, Ranked
The best collagen is the one you will take every day, at a dose that matches the evidence and a price you can keep paying. That is the test every pick below has to pass first. Where a brand makes a claim of its own, we say whose claim it is.

1. Ancient + Brave True Collagen - Best Collagen for Menopause Overall
What does a collagen powder look like when the label has nothing to hide? Ancient + Brave True Collagen gives you 100% bovine hydrolysed collagen peptides (Type I) from grass-fed herds in the EU, with no other ingredient listed, in a 5g serving that matches the daily amount used in the bone trial.
You get roughly 40 servings in a £32 container, which works out at about £0.80 a day, among the lowest on the list. The brand is a Certified B Corporation and states that every batch is independently tested for purity, potency and contaminants. Subscribing brings the price down to from £25.60.
The brand also reports a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 60 healthy UK women aged 35 to 55 on its product page. That is the brand's own trial, so you should weigh it as one, and skin and hair claims for collagen are not authorised in Great Britain, so we do not restate its percentages as fact. We count it as a sign the brand is willing to test its product, not as independent proof.
It is not a menopause-specific formula, which is why it scores 7 on fit and not higher. If you want collagen without paying for extras, this is the one to buy. The same brand also sells Noble Collagen, a Type II joint capsule that ranks 13th below, and our Ancient + Brave review covers the brand.
“The plainest label on the list, at about £0.80 a day, with a 5g dose that matches the bone trial.”

2. Pura Collagen balance - Best for Bone Health in Menopause
Five thousand milligrams is the number to remember with Pura Collagen balance. Each 8g serving gives you 5,000mg of FORTIBONE Bioactive Collagen Peptides, hydrolysed bovine collagen, which matches the 5g daily amount used in the 12-month Konig 2018 trial of postmenopausal women.
We matched the dose, not the product, and you should read the match that way. The trial used 'specific collagen peptides', and we cannot tell from the listing whether those peptides are identical to FORTIBONE, so treat the match as a dose match only. Pura publishes its full ingredient and nutrient reference table, which is why it scores 8 on trust.
The rest of the serving is a menopause formula, and you pay for every extra. It adds KSM-66 ashwagandha root extract at 600mg, sage leaf extract at 200mg, soy isoflavones at 125mg, maca root extract at 50mg, folic acid, magnesium, vitamin C, vitamin D3, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12. That is a useful list for some women and a reason to pause for others.
If you have a hormone-sensitive condition, a thyroid condition, or you take any prescribed medicine or HRT, check with your GP or pharmacist before you start. At £45 for 28 servings it costs £1.61 a day, about twice a plain powder, and value is the criterion where it loses most points.
“Matches the 5g trial dose and publishes every ingredient, but check the soy and ashwagandha with your GP first.”

| Best for | Best for bone health in menopause, 5,000mg FORTIBONE per serving |

3. Planet Paleo Pure Collagen Powder - Best Value Lab-Tested Bovine Collagen
Planet Paleo Pure Collagen Powder undercuts the winner on price and matches it on simplicity. The only ingredient is grass-fed bovine collagen hydrolysate, and you get 7.5g in each serving, which is above the 5g amount used in the Konig 2018 bone trial.
A 225g tub of 30 servings costs £22.99, which works out at about £0.77 a day, and a 450g tub of 60 servings costs £38.99 if you want to buy ahead. The brand says the collagen comes from the hides of grass-fed certified cows and is lab tested to be free of pesticides, heavy metals, hormones, antibiotics and other contaminants. That is the brand's statement, and we did not see the lab reports, so you should weigh it that way.
It ties with Pura on 7.90 and ranks third on the tie-break, because Pura scores 10 on fit for menopause and Planet Paleo scores 6. Nothing about this tub is positioned for menopause, so you are buying simplicity, and the page title states Type 1 and 3, which fits a bovine source. Our Planet Paleo collagen review covers the brand in more depth.
“A plain, lab-tested bovine powder at £22.99 and about £0.77 a day, with a 7.5g serving above the trial dose.”

4. KIKI Health Pure Marine Powder - Best Marine Collagen for Menopause Skin
Marine collagen does not need a long ingredient list to earn a place, and KIKI Health proves it. Its Collagen, Pure Marine powder gives you 7,500mg of collagen per serving, described on the listing as Type 1, purified hydrolysed collagen from wild fish.
The brand says it is 'sustainably sourced from a responsible fishery', but the listing names no certification, which is why it scores 7 on trust and not 9. The dose sits above the 5g trial amount, and we found no trial showing that more than 5g does more. A 200g pack costs £29.95, and a 20g sample costs £7.00 if you want to test the taste first.
We cannot work out a price per day, because the verified listing does not give us the serving count we would need. Value still scores 9, because £29.95 for 200g is the lowest pack price among the marine products we ranked. If you prefer to compare marine products head to head, our guides to the best marine collagen in the UK and the KIKI Health collagen review go further.
Skip it if you have a fish allergy. The Dr Louise Newson team writes that marine collagen specifically has shown some promising results, but that larger independent studies are needed, and that is the honest summary for any marine pick.
“A plain marine powder with a 7,500mg serving, and a 20g sample at £7 if you want to try it first.”

5. Hunter & Gather Grass-Fed Collagen - Best Unflavoured Grass-Fed Bovine Powder
If you do not know the serving size of what you are buying, you cannot work out what it costs each day, and that is the first thing to know about Hunter & Gather. The listing gives a single price of £30.00 for its Grass-Fed Collagen, and we could not capture the pack weight or serving size, so we show the price per pack only.
We scored it as a single-ingredient bovine powder, which puts it level with Ancient + Brave on quality at 8. It scores 7 on trust and 6 on fit, because nothing about it is positioned for menopause. BBC Good Food's tested roundup also features it, which is useful if you want a second opinion on the product.
Value scores 8 on the price alone. Ask the brand for the per-serving dose before you buy, and compare it with the 5g trial amount. If it matches, you have a plain, unflavoured powder from a brand that sells it as grass-fed.
Buy it when you want a bovine powder from a second brand for comparison. Skip it if the price per day matters to you, because you cannot check it from the listing.
“A plain grass-fed bovine powder at £30.00, but the serving size is not published on the page we checked.”

6. Correxiko Marine Collagen Peptides Powder - Best High-Dose Marine Powder
Ten thousand milligrams is the number on the Correxiko pouch, and the label is as short as the claim. You get one ingredient, hydrolysed marine collagen from Canadian wild-caught fish, in a 10g serving that carries 10,000mg of collagen.
A 300g pouch holds 30 servings and costs £39.95, so you pay £1.33 a day. The brand says it is formulated by a British medical doctor and that the collagen is double hydrolysed, and we cannot verify either statement. Trust scores 7 because the sourcing is stated but we captured no named certification.
That dose is twice the 5g trial amount, and we found no trial showing that a higher dose does more, so the extra grams are a price decision. Skip it if you have a fish allergy. Our Correxiko collagen review goes into the brand further.
“A single-ingredient marine powder with 10,000mg per serving, at £1.33 a day.”

| Shop | Buy at Correxiko - £39.95 |

7. Innermost The Glow Blend - Best All-in-One Skin, Hair and Nails Sachet
A sachet of unflavoured powder is the whole idea behind Innermost The Glow Blend. Each 6g serving gives you 6g of hydrolysed collagen peptides, 100mg of hyaluronic acid, plus biotin, folate and vitamin C, though the page we checked did not give the amounts for those three.
At £33 for 30 sachets you pay £1.10 a day, and the collagen dose is above the 5g trial amount. Vitamin C is the one added ingredient with an authorised Great Britain claim, for its role in normal collagen formation, so it is a sensible extra and not a gimmick. The other additions are harder to judge without their amounts.
That missing detail is why trust scores 7. A sachet is easier to carry and measure than a tub, and it removes the scoop, so it suits you if you travel or hate measuring. BBC Good Food ranked it first in its tested roundup, which we note as a second opinion and not as our reason for placing it.
It sits seventh because it scores 7 on quality, a point below each of the six products above it. If your goal is skin, hair and nails in one daily habit, it is a reasonable all-rounder. If your goal is bone, choose Pura instead.
“The easiest daily format on the list at £1.10 a day, with 6g of collagen and added extras that lack stated amounts.”

8. Bulk Collagen & Vitamin C - Best Budget Flavoured Collagen
Bulk is the brand a Mumsnet poster named in our quote wall, and it wins on price if cost decides it for you. A 500g tub costs £21.99 at list price, and at about 33 servings of 15g that comes to about £0.66 a day, the lowest figure we can calculate for any product here.
Each 15g serving gives you 12g of hydrolysed bovine collagen and 24mg of vitamin C, well above the 5g trial amount. The ingredients are hydrolysed collagen (bovine), citric acid, natural flavouring, steviol glycosides and ascorbic acid, so this is a flavoured and sweetened powder. The listing does not state the collagen type, which is why trust scores 6.
Bulk is a sports-nutrition brand, and nothing about the page is aimed at menopause, so fit scores 5. As penguinfacebum says in the quote wall, the taste is the hurdle, and the vitamin C effervescent trick is the fix. It wins on price, not on transparency, and you should treat the 12g dose as a price question and not a proven benefit.
“A flavoured bovine powder at about £0.66 a day, with 12g of collagen per serving and no stated collagen type.”

9. Nature's Best Collagen Beauty Taste Free Powder - Best Low-Dose VERISOL Powder for Skin
Nature's Best gives you the smallest collagen dose on this list, and it prices accordingly. The powder is a single ingredient, 2.5g of VERISOL bioactive bovine collagen peptides, type I and type III, in each daily serving.
A 100g jar lasts 40 days and costs £28.00, which works out at £0.70 a day. The brand says 2.5g is precisely the amount used in published research on skin, and that is the brand's claim, so you should read it as one. That is half the 5g used in the bone trial, so this is a skin-focused pick and not a bone-dose pick.
The product page uses wrinkle-reduction wording, and skin claims for collagen are not authorised in Great Britain, which is why trust scores 6 for a named branded peptide. We do not restate its percentages, and neither should you. Nature's Best also publishes a guide that ranks on page one for this keyword, and we rank the product on its merit.
“A low-dose VERISOL powder at £0.70 a day, with 2.5g per serving, half the bone-trial amount.”

10. Wild Nutrition Collagen 500 Plus - Best Small-Scoop Marine Collagen from a Women's Health Brand
Wild Nutrition is a women's health brand, and its Collagen 500 Plus is a small scoop shared with other nutrients. The daily scoop is 3g in total and also carries silica at 50mg, vitamin C at 12mg, biotin at 50µg and vitamin E at 1.8mg. That means you get under 3g of collagen a day, well below the 5g trial amount.
The collagen is Type I hydrolysed marine collagen from tilapia. The brand is Friend of the Sea certified, the company is a B Corp, and the nutrient table is published for you to check, which is why trust scores 8 and quality only 6.
A 30-day jar or refill pouch costs £37.50, so you pay £1.25 a day for the lowest collagen dose among the marine products. It is a skin-focused pick for you if you value a women's health brand, not a pick for the trial dose. Skip it if you have a fish allergy.
“A 3g scoop with under 3g of collagen, from a certified women's health brand, at £1.25 a day.”

11. Doctor Seaweed Collagen+ - Best Marine Collagen with Seaweed Iodine
Doctor Seaweed adds one thing to the marine collagen you pay for, and it is iodine. Each serving of about 5g carries 5,000mg of hydrolysed Type I marine collagen, which matches the 5g trial amount, and 37.5µg of iodine from PureSea Protect seaweed, which is 25 per cent of the nutrient reference value.
A 30-day glass jar or refill pouch costs £44.00, so you pay £1.47 a day. The brand states EFSA-approved claims, and those rest on the iodine and not on the collagen, so you should not read them as support for the collagen. Traceability is stated, which is why trust scores 7.
The iodine is the reason to check before you buy. If you have a thyroid condition, ask your GP or pharmacist first, because iodine intake matters there. Skip it if you have a fish allergy.
“A trial-dose marine collagen with iodine from seaweed, at £1.47 a day. Check the iodine if you have a thyroid condition.”

12. Revive Collagen Peri Menopause - Best Perimenopause-Specific Formula
Revive Collagen Peri Menopause is the lighter of the two Revive formulas, and the one aimed at the years before your periods stop. It gives you 5,000mg of Type 1 hydrolysed marine collagen per serving, the same amount as the 5g trial dose, plus inositol, retinol, selenium, zinc, folic acid and vitamins B6, B12, C and D.
A 28-day supply costs £72.18, which works out at £2.58 a day, and a 14-day supply costs £39.89. That is more than three times the daily cost of a plain powder, so you pay a premium and value scores 5. Revive wins on menopause positioning, not on value or transparency.
Retinol is a form of vitamin A, so check the total if you also take a multivitamin. Our Revive Collagen review covers the brand in more depth. Skip this one if you have a fish allergy.

13. Ancient + Brave Noble Collagen - Best Type II Capsule for Joints
Type II is the collagen TicketyBoo11 asked about in our quote wall, and Noble Collagen is the only type II product you will find on this list. It is a capsule that combines Type II collagen with Boswellia serrata, taken as one capsule a day.
A jar costs you £39.00, and we show the price per jar only, because we did not capture the type II dose or verify the capsule count. That means we cannot compare it with the 5g trial amount, and that trial tested type I peptides for bone in any case. The brand is a B Corp and publishes full sourcing across its range, which is why trust scores 7.
Joint stiffness is a real reason for you to look at it, and fit scores 7 for that. Our guide to the best collagen for joints goes further, and our Ancient + Brave review covers the brand.

14. Absolute Collagen Marine Collagen Liquid - Best Ready-to-Drink Liquid Collagen
Absolute Collagen is the one on this list you drink rather than stir. Each sachet delivers 8,000mg of marine collagen in liquid form, and the brand appears in the search engine's AI Overview for this keyword, in BBC Good Food's roundup and in Vogue's.
The price is the friction. A 14-day supply costs £33.99, about £2.43 a day, roughly three times the daily cost of a plain powder, and a 28-day supply costs £55.98, which brings it to £2.00 a day. You are paying for convenience, and you should decide whether a ready-to-drink liquid is worth that to you.
Trust scores 6 because the listing we checked was the homepage product module, not a full ingredient and sourcing table like the plainer powders publish. The dose is above the 5g trial amount, and we found no trial showing that a higher amount does more. If lumps and taste put you off powders, a liquid removes both problems.
Our dedicated best liquid collagen guide compares the format in more depth if you are weighing it up. Our own Absolute Collagen review has not been published yet.

15. Revive Collagen Menopause Max - Best High-Dose Menopause Formula
Menopause is written on the front of the Revive pack, and the price you pay sits right next to it. Revive Collagen Menopause Max costs £81.99 for 28 days, about £2.93 a day, which is the most expensive per day of the 17 where we can calculate it, for 10,000mg of Type 1 hydrolysed marine collagen per serving.
It also packs in 21 ingredients, including reishi mushroom, lutein, selenium, chicory root, pine bark extract, folic acid and vitamins B6, B12, C, D, E and K. With that many, you cannot tell which one is doing anything, and you cannot judge each against a trial. The brand says the formula was 'developed alongside a menopause doctor', which is brand copy and not something we have verified.
Revive also tells you that during the first five years of menopause, women lose an extra 30% of collagen in the skin. That figure is the brand's marketing claim, and we are not restating it as fact. Revive wins on menopause positioning and dose, not on value or transparency.
Its lighter Peri Menopause formula ranks 12th above if you want less in the glass, and our Revive Collagen review covers the brand in more depth.

16. Vida Glow Natural Marine Collagen Original - Best Flavourless Sachet for Skin
Is 3,000mg enough for you? Vida Glow's Natural Marine Collagen Original delivers 3,000mg of hydrolysed marine collagen peptides per sachet, which is below the 5g daily amount used in the Konig 2018 bone trial.
That makes it a skin-focused choice if you want an easy sachet, and not one to pick if you are chasing the trial dose. The brand says the collagen is sustainably sourced from open-water fish farms in Europe, and the listing says the product is free from gluten, dairy, sugar and artificial flavours. A box costs £39.00, but the page we checked did not state the sachet count, so we cannot give a price per day.
Quality scores 6 because of the dose, trust 7 because the sourcing is stated, and value 6 because the cost per day is unknown. It ties on 6.50 with Revive and ranks sixteenth on the tie-break, because Revive scores higher on fit for menopause. If a sachet suits your routine and you are focused on skin, it is a fair option.
If you want to reach the trial dose with this product, you would need more than one sachet a day, which changes the cost. Check the box count against your plan before you buy.

17. Gold Collagen Forte - Best Liquid Shot for Over-40s Skin Routines
Gold Collagen Forte is a 50ml shot you drink daily, with a long ingredient list, and the brand positions it for skin from the age of 40. Each daily bottle carries 5,000mg of hydrolysed marine collagen from fish, plus hyaluronic acid at 40mg, vitamin C at 80mg, vitamin E at 6mg, zinc at 1.5mg, vitamin B6 at 1.4mg, copper at 150µg, biotin at 50µg and vitamin D at 5µg.
It also lists L-carnosine, resveratrol, acai, CoQ10, and borage and evening primrose oils, and it is sweetened with stevia. With about 20 added ingredients, you cannot tell which one is doing anything. A default pack costs £44.00, and we did not capture the bottle count, so we show the price per pack only.
The label lists N-acetyl-glucosamine from crustaceans and soy lecithin, so avoid it if you have a shellfish or soy allergy. It ranks last on a score of 6.45 because value is 5 and quality is 6. Our Gold Collagen review covers the brand in more depth.
“A multi-ingredient liquid shot with 5,000mg of marine collagen, and crustacean and soy ingredients to check.”

Menopause Formula or Plain Collagen?
A menopause collagen formula is collagen plus added vitamins, minerals and botanicals, sold to you on the idea that the extras suit this stage of life. Three products in this ranking fit that description: Revive Collagen Menopause Max, Revive Collagen Peri Menopause and Pura Collagen balance. Ancient + Brave True Collagen, Planet Paleo Pure Collagen Powder and KIKI Health Pure Marine Powder are the plain alternatives, because each is a single ingredient.
Here is the cost difference in plain numbers, so you can judge the premium. Ancient + Brave costs about £0.80 a day, roughly a quarter of Revive Menopause Max at about £2.93 a day, and Planet Paleo is cheaper still at £0.77. Pura balance sits at £1.61 and Revive Peri Menopause at £2.58.
Pura Collagen balance contains 5,000mg of collagen per serving, half the 10,000mg in Revive Collagen Menopause Max, but it is the dose used in a 12-month bone trial in postmenopausal women. Revive Peri Menopause matches that 5,000mg and adds retinol and minerals, at more than three times the daily cost of the plain powder you could buy instead.
A formula is worth paying for only if two things are true. You must want every ingredient in it, and you must be able to take every ingredient safely. In a blend of 21, you cannot tell which ingredient is doing anything, and no trial tested that exact blend.
For most of you, a plain collagen at the trial dose plus a separate nutrient chosen with a professional is easier to judge and cheaper. Hydrolysed collagen peptides are collagen proteins broken into short chains so that they dissolve in water, and a plain powder gives you exactly that. If you want the convenience of one scoop and you tolerate every ingredient, a formula is a fair choice.
Check what you already take before adding one, because several formulas contain vitamins that also sit in your multivitamin. Our guide to the best collagen powder in the UK compares plain options in more depth.
Does Collagen Help in Menopause? What the Evidence Says
Collagen is the main structural protein in your skin, and the amount in your skin declines through the years after the menopause. A review by Reilly and Lozano in 2021 reports an average decline of 2.1% in skin collagen content for each postmenopausal year, citing earlier measurements. That is the reason skin is the first thing many of you ask about.
Whether swallowing collagen changes that is a different question. A 2021 systematic review and meta-analysis by de Miranda and colleagues pooled trials of hydrolysed collagen supplementation on skin ageing. We do not quote its numbers here, and you should read it as a pooled summary of smaller trials.
For your bones, the best-known trial is Konig and colleagues in Nutrients, 2018. In 131 postmenopausal women over 12 months, 5g of specific collagen peptides a day was associated with significantly higher bone mineral density at the spine and femoral neck than placebo. One co-author is affiliated with the Collagen Research Institute in Kiel, so the trial has an industry link, and we say so every time we cite it.
That industry link is common in this field, so you will see us name it each time. In the words of Dr Louise Newson's team, "Marine collagen, specifically, has shown some promising results, but larger, independent studies are needed to confirm its effectiveness." My own work at The Kyros Project at Google DeepMind is built on advanced biomedical blood testing, so I am used to asking what a number is measuring before I trust it.
Then there is the law that governs what a tub may promise you. Under the Great Britain nutrition and health claims register, collagen skin, joint and bone claims are not authorised, while vitamin C's role in normal collagen formation is. So a tub that promises younger skin or stronger bones is going further than the law allows.
The honest summary is calm. Collagen is a reasonable, evidence-supported optimisation for skin and bone, and it is not a treatment for menopause, osteoporosis or arthritis. If you want the deeper read, our guide on collagen and menopause goes further, and our page on whether collagen works covers the wider evidence.
Marine or Bovine Collagen for Menopause?
Marine collagen is mostly type I, and bovine collagen supplies type I and type III. Type II is a different collagen again, found mainly in cartilage, and it appears in joint supplements such as Ancient + Brave's Noble Collagen capsule, which ranks 13th above, and not in the type I powders, though Planet Paleo's listing states Type 1 and 3 for its bovine powder. So the claim in our third quote, that you need Type 2 for joints, describes a different product category, and we do not endorse it.
Neither source has a proven edge in menopause. The only dose in this article that we can pin to a postmenopausal trial is 5g a day of specific collagen peptides, and the trial does not tell us that marine beats bovine or the reverse. Your choice should rest on what you will tolerate and keep taking.
Choose bovine if you want the lowest cost per day, and choose marine if you avoid beef or prefer a fish source. Skip marine if you have a fish or shellfish allergy. Our guide to marine vs bovine collagen compares the two properly, and our guide to the best collagen for joints covers joint products.
You may also see search results that lean on advice about type, hydrolysed peptides and added actives. That advice is a fair checklist, but it is not evidence that any one type works better for you. Check the dose, the sourcing and the price per day first.
How Much Collagen to Take, and How to Keep Taking It
Anchor your dose on 5g a day, because that is the amount used in the 12-month bone trial in postmenopausal women. The labels in this ranking run from 2.5g a day at Nature's Best to 12g a serving at Bulk, and Ancient + Brave, Pura, Doctor Seaweed and Revive Peri Menopause all sit at 5g. In the trials we cite, we found nothing showing that a higher dose does more, so extra grams are a price decision and not a proven benefit.
Our guide on how much collagen per day goes through the dose question in more depth, and when to take collagen covers timing. Pick a time you will not forget, because a tub in the cupboard does nothing for you.
Taste, texture and lumps are why many women stop, so plan for them. Stir the powder into Greek yoghurt, as OrangeSpaghetti does, or add it to a vitamin C effervescent drink, as penguinfacebum suggests. Use a small frother as soon as the powder meets the water, as Hadalifeonce does, and you avoid the lumps.
There is no perfect routine, and I do not believe in rigid ones. A collagen you take on five days out of seven is better than a perfect plan you drop in week two. It is about balance, not perfection, and the best habit is the one you keep.
Who Should Be Careful
Most plain collagen powders are simple, but a few groups should check first. If you have a fish or shellfish allergy, skip the marine products, which here means KIKI Health, Correxiko, Wild Nutrition, Doctor Seaweed, Absolute Collagen, Revive, Vida Glow and Gold Collagen. If you take prescribed medicine or HRT, or you have a hormone-sensitive condition or a thyroid condition, ask your GP or pharmacist before adding any multi-ingredient formula.
Pura Collagen balance contains 125mg of soy isoflavones and 600mg of KSM-66 ashwagandha in each serving. That is not a reason to avoid it, but it is a reason to check, and we mean that in a neutral way. Take the full ingredient list with you when you ask.
Doctor Seaweed Collagen+ carries iodine from seaweed, so check it with your GP if you have a thyroid condition. Gold Collagen Forte lists N-acetyl-glucosamine from crustaceans and soy lecithin, so it is not for you if you have a shellfish or soy allergy. Revive Peri Menopause contains retinol, a form of vitamin A, so check your total if you also take a multivitamin.
Many-ingredient formulas can also overlap with what you already take. Revive Menopause Max contains vitamins B6, B12, C, D, E and K, and Pura contains vitamins B6, B12, C and D, so a multivitamin on top could double some of them. Add up your total before you start.
Do not use collagen as a reason to stop or swap a prescribed treatment, and do not read it as an alternative to HRT. Our guide to collagen side effects grades what is and is not known. If you have a question about a medicine, your pharmacist is the right person to ask.
Other Supplements Women Look at in Menopause
Collagen is rarely the only supplement on your shelf, so here is where it fits. Many women also look at creatine for women for muscle and bone support, and our guide already ranks for perimenopause creatine searches. Others look at magnesium for sleep.
Collagen is an incomplete protein, so it does not replace a complete protein source. If your daily protein is low, a complete option from our guide to the best protein powder for women does a different job. For your skin goals specifically, our best collagen for skin and best collagen for hair pages go deeper.
Several related topics you may search next are still on our list, including bovine collagen, collagen peptides, best collagen gummies and best vegan collagen uk. Our broader guide to collagen supplements sits above all of them.
Brands We Left Out and Why
Free Soul is the brand Good Housekeeping puts first in its tested roundup of 14 collagen supplements, and it had no working UK site when we checked on 3 October 2026. Both the homepage and the product page returned an error, so we could not verify a price or a dose. You cannot buy what you cannot find.
Vital Proteins is out because its UK site returned an access error on 3 October 2026, so we could not verify that you can buy it here. Elevate, the brand a Mumsnet poster calls "elavate", had a site that did not respond that day. Protein Works has a collagen range that is sports-positioned, and Shreddy is fitness-led, so neither is a good fit for you here.
Planet Paleo's Osteo Collagen Powder showed as out of stock on 3 October 2026, so you will find its Pure Collagen Powder ranked instead. Celebrity-led products are out too, because an endorsement is not evidence.
What to avoid matters as much as what to buy, so here is your short list. Skip any tub that sells on a famous name with no dose on the label, any menopause claim that is not matched by a published ingredient amount, and any blend that hides its doses behind a proprietary name.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the best collagen for a 50 year old woman?
For most women in their fifties, Ancient + Brave True Collagen is the best all-round choice: a single-ingredient Type I bovine powder with a 5g serving at about £0.80 a day. If bone health is your priority, Pura Collagen balance matches the 5g trial dose at £1.61 a day. If you prefer marine, KIKI Health Pure Marine Powder is the pick.
Should I take bovine or marine collagen in menopause?
Neither has a proven edge in menopause, so choose on tolerance and taste. Bovine collagen supplies type I and type III, and marine collagen is mostly type I. Skip marine if you have a fish allergy. Our marine vs bovine collagen guide compares them, and a plain powder at the trial dose is a sensible place to start.
What is the downside of taking collagen?
The most common complaints are practical: taste, lumps and cost. Marine products are unsuitable if you have a fish allergy, and multi-ingredient formulas add botanicals that you should check against any medicine you take. Read our collagen side effects guide for the graded evidence, and ask your pharmacist if you are in doubt.
What should collagen not be mixed with?
There is no well-established food interaction with plain collagen powder. Check the added ingredients instead, because botanicals, vitamins and minerals in a formula can matter more than the collagen itself. If you take any prescribed medicine, ask your pharmacist before you add a multi-ingredient product to your routine.
Can I take a collagen supplement with citalopram?
We cannot say either way, and neither can a supplement label. Ask your pharmacist or GP before you start, especially with a multi-ingredient formula that contains botanicals such as ashwagandha. A plain single-ingredient collagen is simpler to check than a 21-ingredient blend, so take the full ingredient list with you.
Which collagen does Davina McCall use?
We cannot verify what any celebrity takes, and an endorsement is not evidence. Check the dose against the 5g used in the bone trial, the collagen type, the full ingredient list, the sourcing and the price per day instead. The same checks apply to a product with a famous name on the tub as to one without.
Is a menopause collagen formula better than plain collagen?
Not automatically. The extra ingredients add cost and need checking, and the collagen dose matters more than the label. Revive Menopause Max costs about £2.93 a day against about £0.80 for a plain powder, and you cannot tell which of its 21 ingredients is doing anything. A plain collagen plus a separate nutrient chosen with a professional is easier to judge.
Will collagen make me put on weight?
Collagen is a protein, so it carries calories like any other protein, but a 5g serving is a small amount of food. Ancient + Brave lists 4.5g of protein per 5g dose. Weight changes in menopause have many causes, so collagen is not the lever to pull if weight is your main concern.
How much collagen should I take a day in menopause?
The bone trial used 5g of specific collagen peptides a day for 12 months, and that is the dose to anchor on. Labels here run from 2.5g a day at Nature's Best to 12g a serving at Bulk. We found no trial in this article showing that more than 5g does more, so a higher dose is a price decision and not a proven benefit.
Can collagen help with menopause belly fat or weight loss?
No. No weight-loss claim is authorised for collagen in Great Britain, and you should not buy any product in this ranking for that reason. Collagen is a protein with calories, not a fat-loss tool. If belly fat or weight is your concern, talk to your GP or a registered nutritional therapist about food, muscle, sleep and treatment options.
