Best collagen capsules UK: Proto-col, Nature's Best, and Kiki Health supplements on marble background

Some of the links in this article are affiliate links, which help fund our independent review work at no extra cost to you. How we assessed these products is explained in this article and our Editor Lab methodology. No brand pays to appear, and no placement is guaranteed.

If you want collagen without the powder, buy Proto-col Pure Collagen Capsules, because four a day give you 2.5g, the amount used in an 8-week skin trial, for £29.95 a month.

The best collagen capsules in the UK for most people are Proto-col Pure Collagen Capsules, which deliver 2,500mg of VERISOL bovine collagen peptides in four capsules a day, the same 2.5g daily amount used in the trial. For joints, Ancient + Brave Noble Collagen gives you one capsule a day of undenatured type II collagen at 40mg, the dose studied in a knee trial, at £39.00 for 30 days.

Capsules are easy to take and easy to forget, and most carry a fraction of a powder dose. This best collagen capsules UK ranking starts from the question most pack fronts skip, which is how many milligrams of collagen you get in a day. Across the seven products below, that runs from 1,200mg to 2,500mg.

We ranked seven collagen capsules and tablets you can buy in the UK on five weighted criteria (formula and dose, verified trust signals, fit for the job, buying experience, and value per day), using prices and labels checked on each brand's UK store on 4 October 2026 and the published trials on collagen peptides, and we compared every daily dose with the trial dose for skin or joints. You can read more in our testing methodology.

How We Ranked Collagen Capsules and Tablets

We scored every product on five things and weighted them so that no single figure could decide the result. Product quality carries 25 per cent: the collagen form, the daily dose against the trial dose for your goal, and how clean the formula is. Verified trust carries 30 per cent, the heaviest weight on purpose, because capsule labels vary more in what they disclose than any other part of this category.

Trust means a full ingredient list with doses, a named branded peptide such as VERISOL or UC-II, the source species and origin, and claims that stay inside the evidence. A capsule is only worth taking if the dose on the back matches the job you want it to do.

Fit for the job carries 15 per cent (capsules a day, pack length and whether the product suits your goal), and service reality carries 10 per cent (a UK store in GBP, retailer availability and subscription flexibility). Value carries 20 per cent and means price per day, never the pack price alone, so you pay for what the capsule delivers.

CriterionWeightWhat It Measures Here
Product quality25%Collagen form, daily dose against the trial dose for the stated goal, formula cleanliness
Verified trust30%Full ingredient list with doses, named branded peptide, source species and origin, claims kept within the evidence
Fit for the job15%Capsules per day, pack length, suitability for skin or joints
Service reality10%UK store in GBP, retailer availability, subscription flexibility, consistent store data
Value20%Price per day from the verified price, pack count and daily serving

Four of the seven products score 8 on trust, so quality decides the top of the table. Proto-col wins on quality because it is the only product here that pairs a named peptide with the full 2.5g skin-trial dose. You can reproduce every position from the weights above.

Nature's Best and KIKI Health tie on 7.60, and you can see how the tie breaks. Nature's Best takes second place because it scores 8 on product quality against KIKI's 7, and dose against the evidence is the capsule-specific decider. KIKI Health (Awin, 10%) and Free Soul (Awin, 5%) are the only two brands here with an affiliate route, and they rank third and sixth because their scores put them there.

The three cost about £1.00, £1.04 and £0.76 a day, and each one answers a different question. Proto-col and Nature's Best both give you the 2.5g skin-trial dose, while KIKI Health gives you a plain marine capsule at 1,800mg a day.

The other four each win a narrower job, so match the product to your goal. Ancient + Brave Noble Collagen is the joint capsule, Correxiko adds hyaluronic acid to a marine formula, Free Soul is the budget skin, hair and nails capsule, and Nutravita is the cheapest tablet per day. All prices were checked on 4 October 2026.

What Collagen Capsule Buyers Say

Ask people who already take collagen why they ended up on capsules and the answer is rarely a trial. It is taste, texture, and a nagging doubt about what else is in the pill. Four posters on a Mumsnet thread say it in their own words, and you will recognise your own kitchen in them.

BretonStripe, on the Mumsnet Style and beauty board on 15 January 2026, explains why powder lost her:

“I don't drink coffee; it tastes gross in tea. Usually mix it with smoothies, porridge or yoghurt. It doesn't blend brilliantly with cold stuff tho”
Clemmie Rose

BretonStripe, in the same Mumsnet thread, voices the worry about extras in the formula:

“I found out last night - via a Mumsnet thread after searching collagen - that high levels of biotin can cause this acne!”
Clemmie Rose

mommybear1, in the same Mumsnet thread, compares brands and found one lacking:

“I tried Ancient and Brave first but felt nothing with that's I like the Willpowders one as it's bovine”
Clemmie Rose

Darklane, in the same Mumsnet thread, takes a product for her joints and reports a difference:

“I take these. They do help with my arthritis, notice a difference if I don't take them.”
Clemmie Rose

A capsule is only worth taking if it carries enough collagen for your goal and nothing you did not ask for. The sections below give you the dose, the extras and the price per day for each product, so you can check them against these four worries. We do not endorse any causal claim in these quotes, and they are readers' experiences, not evidence.

The 7 Best Collagen Capsules and Tablets in the UK, Ranked

Start with the number on the back of the pack. For each pick below you get the collagen per day, the capsules or tablets that takes, the added ingredients, the price per day and the one friction point to know about. Where a brand makes a claim of its own, we say whose claim it is.

Proto-col Pure Collagen Capsules: pouch of Proto-col Pure Collagen Capsules beside four capsules and a glass of water

1. Proto-col Pure Collagen Capsules - Best Collagen Capsules Overall

Four capsules, 2,500mg: that is the whole case for Proto-col. Each capsule holds 625mg of VERISOL, a branded hydrolysed bovine collagen peptide made up of type I and type III collagen, so a serving gives you the 2.5g used in the Proksch 2014 skin trial. We matched the dose, not the peptide, so read the trial abstract for the exact ingredient it used.

A pouch holds 120 capsules, which the brand sells as a month's supply, so £29.95 gets you a month at £1.00 a day. The listing names the peptide and the bovine source, which is why trust scores 8, and the brand describes the capsules as tasteless. Its marketing lines on skin firmness and tendon repair are the brand's own, and we do not repeat them as findings.

The limit is the dose itself. 2.5g is half the 5g used in the bone trial, so if bone is your goal you would need eight capsules a day to reach 5g, and the brand's own cap is 16 a day. Our Proto-col collagen review covers the brand in more detail.

Nature's Best Collagen Beauty Tablets: tub of Nature's Best Collagen Beauty Tablets beside three tablets on a saucer

2. Nature's Best Collagen Beauty Tablets - Best Collagen Tablets for Skin

A 60-tablet pack lasts 20 days, not a month, because the daily serving is three tablets. That is the first thing to know before you compare its £20.70 price with a 30-day pack elsewhere. Worked out properly, £20.70 over 20 days is £1.04 a day.

Three tablets give you 2.5g of VERISOL bovine collagen peptides, plus vitamin C, biotin and silica, so the dose matches Proto-col's. The listing gives an average molecular weight of about 2,000 Daltons, a detail most brands skip, which is why trust scores 8. It does not give amounts for the vitamin C, biotin and silica, so you cannot judge those from the page.

Nature's Best says 2.5g is 'the exact amount used in published studies' and that VERISOL 'decreased eye wrinkle volume by up to 40%'. Both lines are the brand's, not our findings, and collagen skin claims are not authorised in Great Britain. You should treat them as marketing and judge the tablet on the dose.

3. KIKI Health Collagen Pure, Marine - Best Single-Ingredient Marine Capsule

A single-ingredient marine capsule is rare, and KIKI Health makes one you can buy in the UK. The collagen is type 1 purified hydrolysed collagen from wild fish including haddock and plaice, with nothing added, and the brand says it is sustainably sourced from a responsible fishery. Naming the species is the trust signal here, and it scores 8.

Each capsule holds 450mg, so four a day gives you 1,800mg, below the 2.5g skin-trial dose. A 5g powder-level dose would mean about 11 capsules a day. At £28.00 for 150 capsules, which is 37 servings, it costs £0.76 a day, so it is cheap but not a like-for-like swap for a powder.

You can subscribe and save 15 per cent, which brings the pack to £23.80 every four weeks. KIKI Health is an affiliate partner, and it sits third because that is where its score puts it. Fish is the source, so skip it if you have a fish allergy, and our KIKI Health collagen review covers the brand.

Ancient + Brave Noble Collagen: glass jar of Ancient + Brave Noble Collagen with one capsule beside it

4. Ancient + Brave Noble Collagen - Best Collagen Capsule for Joints

This is the odd one out on the list, and that is the point: Noble Collagen is a joint capsule, not a skin capsule. Each daily capsule holds 40mg of undenatured type II collagen from chicken sternum cartilage, plus 67mg of Boswellia serrata extract (6:1, equivalent to 400mg), 12mg of vitamin C (15% NRV) and 0.4mg of manganese (22% NRV). The label lists every amount for you to check, which is why trust scores 8.

The 40mg matches the daily dose in the Lugo 2016 trial, in which 191 volunteers with knee osteoarthritis were given 40mg of undenatured type II collagen, glucosamine with chondroitin, or placebo. The authors concluded that it improved knee joint symptoms. We could not capture who funded the trial, so we do not call it independent, and it is not a treatment you can rely on for arthritis.

It does nothing that a type I skin collagen does, so do not buy it for your skin. It costs £39.00 for 30 servings, which is £1.30 a day and the highest on the list, and subscribing brings it to £31.20. The brand does not recommend it in pregnancy, and our Ancient + Brave review covers the brand.

Correxiko High-Potency Marine Collagen Capsules: bottle of Correxiko Marine Collagen Capsules with four capsules beside it

5. Correxiko High-Potency Marine Collagen Capsules - Best Marine Capsule with Hyaluronic Acid

The £29.00 on the page is a sale price. The regular price is £36.95, shown as 21 per cent off on 4 October 2026, so the honest cost is £0.97 a day on sale and £1.23 a day at the regular price. Check which one you are paying when you buy.

You take four capsules a day, either all in the morning or two in the morning and two in the afternoon. The page title states 2000mg of marine collagen with vitamin C, and the formula adds hyaluronic acid, vitamins C, E and B7, selenium, manganese, copper and zinc. The product text we read does not show a per-capsule panel, so we cannot confirm the added amounts, and trust scores 6.

Several lines on the page are the brand's own statements. It says the collagen is double hydrolysed and sourced from 'wild-caught fish in pristine Arctic waters', that it is 'formulated by a British medical Doctor', and it shows 4.6 out of 5 from 327 reviews. You should weigh those as marketing, and our Correxiko collagen review covers the brand.

Free Soul Marine Collagen Capsules: box of Free Soul Marine Collagen Capsules with three capsules beside it

6. Free Soul Marine Collagen Capsules - Best Budget Skin, Hair and Nails Capsule

If you want to spend about £10 a month and still get a recognisable marine collagen capsule, Free Soul is the one. A serving of three capsules gives you 1,200mg of type I marine collagen peptides, 50mg of hyaluronic acid, 40mg of vitamin C and 75µg of biotin, and £9.99 covers 30 days, which is £0.33 a day. It is gluten and dairy free.

It wins on price, not on dose or transparency. 1,200mg is the lowest dose in the ranking, less than half the 2.5g skin-trial dose, and the page does not state the fish species or where it comes from. That is why trust scores 6, and you should weigh it before you buy.

Free Soul's old web address, freesoul.co.uk, returned a 404 error on 4 October 2026, and the brand now trades at freesoul.com, which is the address we link. Free Soul has an affiliate route, and it sits sixth because its score puts it there. Check the 75µg of biotin against anything else you take.

Nutravita Marine Collagen 1400mg Tablets: tub of Nutravita Marine Collagen tablets with two tablets beside it

7. Nutravita Marine Collagen 1400mg Tablets - Cheapest Collagen Tablets per Day

£0.23 a day is the lowest price per day here, and the label tells you why. Two tablets give you 1,400mg of hydrolysed type 1 marine collagen, and a 60-tablet tub costs £6.99, or £6.64 on subscription. Only Free Soul carries a lower dose.

The tablet adds a lot. You get 100mg of hyaluronic acid, 100mg of vitamin C (125% NRV), 8.6mg of vitamin E (72%), 100µg of biotin (200%), 15mg of zinc (150%), 1mg of copper (100%) and 150µg of iodine (100% NRV). If you already take a multivitamin, you can double up on several of these at once.

The collagen is sourced 'from regions including the EU, South America and Southeast Asia', a wide origin that scores 6 on trust, and the tablets are not vegan. Like Free Soul, it wins on price, not on dose or transparency. Read the extras section below before you stack it with anything else.

Collagen Capsules vs Powder vs Liquid: The Dose Problem

Collagen capsules are hydrolysed collagen peptides packed into a capsule or tablet, with about 400mg to 830mg in each one across this ranking, taken as two to four a day. Collagen tablets are the same peptides pressed into a tablet, and the daily dose is the number you should read either way. In this ranking that daily dose runs from 1,200mg to 2,500mg, against the 5g studied in the bone trial and the 5g or more that powders are usually sold at.

The sums show you the gap. Proto-col Pure Collagen Capsules deliver 2,500mg a day, almost double the 1,400mg in Nutravita's tablets, but cost about £1.00 a day against £0.23. A 5g daily dose would take about 11 KIKI capsules, or eight Proto-col capsules, against one scoop of powder.

A capsule makes sense when it matches a trial dose for your goal. That means the 2.5g skin dose from VERISOL in Proto-col or Nature's Best, or 40mg of undenatured type II collagen (UC-II) in Noble for joints. UC-II is a low-dose joint collagen that works differently from hydrolysed type I, so you cannot compare the two on milligrams.

Choose powder if you want 5g or more a day, such as the bone-trial dose. Our best collagen powder uk ranking is the route for you if you will take the full trial dose, and our best liquid collagen uk ranking covers drinks. Whichever format you pick, you should read milligrams of collagen a day, not the size of the pack.

Source matters less than dose, so choose the one you will tolerate. Marine collagen is mostly type I and bovine collagen supplies types I and III, and our guide to marine vs bovine collagen compares them for you. Our best marine collagen uk ranking covers marine products in every format, and the types of collagen, bovine collagen, collagen peptides and best collagen gummies are all on our list for you to read next.

Collagen capsules also add almost no protein to your day, so they do not replace a protein source, because 2.5g is a small amount and collagen is an incomplete protein. If your protein is low, our guide to the best protein powder for women does a different job. For the full range of formats, our guide to collagen supplements sits above this ranking.

Do Collagen Capsules Work? What the Evidence Says

Some capsules work at the doses the trials used, and you should read the evidence as promising, not settled. In an 8-week trial of 114 women aged 45 to 65, 2.5g of specific bioactive collagen peptides a day was tested against placebo, and the authors' Proksch 2014 paper is titled 'Oral intake of specific bioactive collagen peptides reduces skin wrinkles and increases dermal matrix synthesis'. The same group published a second paper, 'Oral supplementation of specific collagen peptides has beneficial effects on human skin physiology: a double-blind, placebo-controlled study', and we cite it by title only.

For joints, the Lugo 2016 trial tested 40mg of undenatured type II collagen in 191 volunteers with knee osteoarthritis symptoms. Its conclusion was that the supplement improved knee joint symptoms. That is a finding in one trial, not a reason for you to treat Noble as a treatment for arthritis or osteoarthritis.

For bone, Konig and colleagues in 2018 enrolled 131 postmenopausal women and gave them 5g of specific collagen peptides a day, or placebo, for 12 months. Their title reports improved bone mineral density and bone markers. No capsule in this ranking reaches 5g in its listed daily serving, so the doses do not line up unless you take eight Proto-col capsules.

The objection you will hear most is that collagen is 'broken down into amino acids' anyway. That is true of any protein you eat, but it does not show the supplement does nothing, because the trials test it against placebo. We did not capture funding details for these trials, so we do not call any of them independent.

Then there is the law. Under the Great Britain nutrition and health claims register, collagen skin, joint and bone claims are not authorised, while vitamin C's role in normal collagen formation is. So a pack that promises you smoother skin or stronger joints is going further than the law allows.

Our guide on whether collagen works covers the wider evidence if you want more.

If your goal is specific, you can go deeper in our rankings of the best collagen for skin, the best collagen for hair and the best collagen for joints. If you are in menopause, best collagen for menopause is also on our list.

Check What Else Is in the Tablet

Some of the extras in these capsules matter more than the collagen, so read the whole label. Nature's Best, Free Soul and Nutravita all add biotin: Free Soul gives you 75µg in three capsules, Nutravita gives you 100µg in two tablets, and Nature's Best does not show an amount in the product description we read. Biotin is why the second quote in our wall worries you, and you should know the full context.

BretonStripe's post says her biotin came from a free pouch of high-strength biotin that came with her collagen subscription, not from a capsule on this list. We do not claim biotin causes acne. Check the label, add up your total from every supplement, and speak to a pharmacist if you are unsure.

Nutravita is the one to read twice. It adds 150µg of iodine (100% NRV), 15mg of zinc (150% NRV) and 1mg of copper (100% NRV) to 1,400mg of collagen, so a multivitamin on top can double all three in your daily total. The NHS page on vitamins and minerals sets out general supplement guidance, and the Food Standards Agency food supplements guidance explains how supplements are regulated in the UK.

Allergies need checking too, so skip KIKI Health, Correxiko, Free Soul and Nutravita if you have a fish allergy, because all four use marine collagen. Noble Collagen comes from chicken sternum cartilage, and the Boswellia in it is a botanical to mention to your pharmacist if you take medicine. Our guide to collagen side effects grades what is and is not known.

How to Take Collagen Capsules

Follow the label, and take the full daily serving, not one capsule when it says four. Correxiko suggests all four in the morning or two in the morning and two in the afternoon, and Ancient + Brave suggests its one capsule with a meal. The skin trial gave its peptides once a day, so a split is a comfort choice for you when four capsules feels like a lot, not a requirement.

Take them with water at a time you will remember. Our guide on when to take collagen covers timing, and our guide on how much collagen per day goes through the dose question in more depth. If you already take other capsules, such as magnesium, add up how many you are asking yourself to swallow every day.

Proto-col's own label caps the day at 16 capsules, so more is not a goal. A capsule you take on five days out of seven does more for you than a perfect plan you drop in week two. Pick the product you will still be taking in three months, because that is the one that works for you.

Brands We Left Out and Why

Some brands you will see in the search results never made the ranking. SkinPep, the Amazon listing at rank two for this keyword, is an Amazon-only listing that we did not verify. New Leaf and Alpha01, both named in Google's AI Overview, are also Amazon-only, and we could not verify a brand store or a price.

Nature's Best Colladeen Visage is a collagen 'support' tablet built around anthocyanidins, vitamin C and plant extracts, not collagen, so it is out. Revive, Gold Collagen and Absolute Collagen sell liquids or powders, so you will find them in our Revive Collagen review and Gold Collagen review instead.

We priced every product at its single-pack price, so any bundle offers from these brands are not counted in your price per day.

What to avoid matters as much as what to buy. Skip any capsule that hides its doses behind a 'complex', any pack that sells on a famous name with no milligrams on the label, and any 'up to' percentage that does not name its source. Your own check takes a minute: find the collagen per day, divide the price by the days the pack lasts, and look at what else is in the capsule.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most effective collagen capsule?

For most people, Proto-col Pure Collagen Capsules, which give you 2,500mg of VERISOL a day, the 2.5g used in an 8-week skin trial, at £1.00 a day. For joints, Ancient + Brave Noble Collagen gives you 40mg of undenatured type II collagen, the dose studied in a knee trial. The right one depends on your goal.

What are the best collagen tablets in the UK?

Nature's Best Collagen Beauty Tablets are the best collagen tablets for skin, giving you 2.5g of VERISOL in three tablets at £20.70 for a 20-day pack. Nutravita Marine Collagen 1400mg Tablets are the cheapest at £0.23 a day, but they carry 150µg of iodine and several other extras, so check them against your multivitamin.

Are there any collagen pills that actually work?

Some do at the doses the trials used, so check the dose before you buy. An 8-week trial of 114 women used 2.5g of specific collagen peptides a day, and a knee trial used 40mg of undenatured type II collagen. Proto-col, Nature's Best and Ancient + Brave match those doses, but the evidence is promising, not settled, and collagen claims are not authorised in Great Britain.

Is it better to drink collagen or take collagen pills?

Pills are easier to take, but they carry less. The peptides are the same, but capsules give you 1,200mg to 2,500mg a day against 5g or more in a powder serving. Take capsules if you will skip powder and want the 2.5g skin dose, and choose powder or liquid if you want the 5g bone-trial dose.

How many collagen capsules should I take a day?

Follow the label, which is usually two to four a day, and check the total milligrams of collagen in your daily serving, not the capsule count. Proto-col is four capsules for 2,500mg, KIKI Health is four for 1,800mg, and Noble is one for 40mg. Our guide on how much collagen per day goes further.

Do the NHS recommend collagen?

The NHS does not recommend collagen supplements, and we do not invent a position for it. For general supplement guidance, the NHS page on vitamins and minerals is the place to start. If you have a health condition or take medicine, ask your pharmacist or GP before you begin.

Can I take a collagen supplement with citalopram?

We cannot say either way, and a supplement label cannot either. Ask your pharmacist or GP before you start, especially with a formula that adds botanicals, such as the Boswellia in Ancient + Brave Noble Collagen. A single-ingredient capsule, such as KIKI Health, is simpler to check than a long blend, so take the full ingredient list with you.

Can collagen tablets cause spots?

We cannot make that claim. Several products here add biotin, including Free Soul, Nutravita and Nature's Best, so check the label and add up the biotin from every supplement you take. If you are worried about your skin, speak to a pharmacist, and our collagen side effects guide grades what is known.

Which collagen does Davina McCall use?

We cannot verify what any celebrity takes, and an endorsement is not evidence. Check the daily dose against the trial dose for your goal, the collagen type, the full ingredient list, the source and the price per day instead. The same checks apply to a product with a famous name on the pack as to one without.

Are collagen capsules as good as powder?

They use the same peptides but give you a far smaller daily dose. Capsules suit the 2.5g skin dose or 40mg of undenatured type II collagen for joints, and powder suits 5g and above. If you want the full trial dose, see our best collagen powder uk ranking.
