Healthspan Elite Activ Hydrate Berry Burst electrolyte tablets, tubes and a tablet fizzing in a glass of water

Some of the links in this article are affiliate links, which help fund our independent review work at no extra cost to you. How we assessed these products is explained in this article and our Editor Lab methodology. No brand pays to appear, and no placement is guaranteed.

Healthspan Elite is the sports-nutrition arm of Healthspan Ltd, official sports nutrition supplier to British Athletics and an official partner to the All Blacks. Every product in the range carries an Informed Sport claim, and if you searched for a tested tablet at a low price, that claim is probably why you landed here.

We reviewed Activ Hydrate, the electrolyte tablet at the centre of the range, against Balance Journal's electrolyte purity framework in the Editor Lab. It ranks 20th of the 22 brands in our best electrolytes UK guide, and it is the cheapest tablet in that entire ranking at £0.42 a dose. Read on for the label, the certification, and what buying it actually gets you.

If you want the full picture of how sodium, magnesium and hydration fit together, our complete guide to electrolytes covers the science this review assumes. Here, you get the Healthspan Elite specifics: what is in Activ Hydrate, what Informed Sport actually tests for, and where this brand's low price comes from.

Reviewers on Feefo keep returning to the same two things: flavour strength and how completely the tablet dissolves. Read the range of opinions below, then the label explains why.

“By far the best hydration electrolytes in the market in my humble opinion. Been using healthspan elite for a few years now, still going strong.”

The Verdict on Healthspan Elite, in One Paragraph

Electrolyte product image 1

Healthspan Elite's Activ Hydrate is the cheapest electrolyte tablet in Balance Journal's 22-brand ranking, and it still ranks 20th. The label carries sucralose, sorbitol and polyethylene glycol, three additives our framework counts against a formulation, though its Informed Sport batch testing is current and verifiable. You are buying a tested, budget tablet with a sweetener and two fillers on the ingredient list, not a clean formulation, and price is the only place it competes with the brands ranked above it.

Activ Hydrate: Healthspan Elite's Electrolyte, Label by Label

Electrolyte product image 2

Activ Hydrate is Healthspan Elite's effervescent electrolyte tablet, sold in Berry and Citrus, forty tablets a tube. You dissolve one tablet in 500ml of water, and the label allows up to four tablets a day.

The full ingredient list, taken directly from the product page, reads: acid (citric acid), acidity regulator (sodium hydrogen carbonate), bulking agent (sorbitol), anti-caking agent (polyethylene glycol), potassium chloride, maltodextrin, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, colours (beetroot red, riboflavin), sweetener (sucralose), acacia gum, and natural flavourings. Twelve ingredients is a long list for a hydration tablet, and three of them (sorbitol, polyethylene glycol and sucralose) exist to bulk, bind and sweeten rather than to hydrate you.

Per TabletAmount
Sodium300 mg
Potassium100 mg
Calcium40 mg
Magnesium20 mg

Sodium is the mineral you are paying for, and it comes from sodium hydrogen carbonate, a bicarbonate source, not table salt. Sugar, carbohydrate and chloride content are not published in the label text we could find, so we cannot give you those numbers. The brand added an "improved formula" note in 2026, saying dispersion has improved and the tablets leave less residue than the previous version.

How Activ Hydrate Scores on Formulation Purity

Electrolyte product image 3

Balance Journal ranks every electrolyte on five measures: ingredient purity, raw salt quality, sugar and additives, purpose fit, and sachet usability. Activ Hydrate loses ground on three of the five, and here is where each one lands for you.

CriterionWhere Activ Hydrate Lands
Ingredient purityTwelve ingredients, including three non-mineral additives
Raw salt qualitySodium is bicarbonate-derived, not a named salt source; no published heavy-metal testing
Sugar and additivesSucralose sweetener, sorbitol bulking agent, polyethylene glycol anti-caking agent
Purpose fitA low-cost, tested tablet for budget training, not a fit if you avoid sweeteners
Sachet usabilityNot rated. Nobody on our team has opened this product, and the criterion is first-hand only. Customer reviews mention incomplete dissolving, reported here as consensus, not a score

You will not find a heavy-metal certificate anywhere on Healthspan Elite's site, and independent testing across the wider electrolyte category has found real reason to ask for one. A 2023 investigation by Mamavation and Environmental Health News tested forty electrolyte products from thirty brands and found detectable total fluorine in nine of them. Healthspan Elite was not named in that study, and its absence from public testing cuts both ways for you: no result to worry about, and no result to point to either.

What "Every Batch. Informed Sport." Proves, and What It Does Not

Electrolyte product image 4

Healthspan Elite's product page carries the banner "EVERY BATCH. INFORMED SPORT." and states that the product "has undergone rigorous testing by LGC's world-class sports anti-doping laboratory... for a wide range of substances banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)." That is a real, meaningful claim, and you should understand exactly what it covers before it changes your buying decision.

Informed Sport screens for banned substances, not for heavy metals, pesticides or general purity. A drug-tested athlete needs that screen. If you are choosing a supplement on cleanliness grounds alone, Informed Sport is not answering your question.

The certificate holds up. We found a current batch certificate for Activ Hydrate, Citrus Twist flavour, batch F170203, analysed 8 October 2024, valid until 31 July 2026 and signed by Eden Bray, Scientist. That certificate document itself states the product has been certified since 22 March 2017. The brand states every batch is tested, and for this product, the paperwork backs it up.

Who Healthspan Elite Is for, and the Rest of the Range

Electrolyte product image 5

Healthspan Elite works for you if you train regularly, get drug-tested, or simply want the cheapest Informed Sport tablet on the market. It is not the right buy if a sweetener-free label matters more to you than price.

The brand backs that positioning with real partnerships. It became British Athletics' official sports nutrition supplier in February 2021, and it has held an official partnership with the All Blacks since 2020.

Healthspan Elite states that "every Healthspan Elite product undergoes independent testing by Informed Sport for WADA-banned substances," and we have not read every individual label in that range with the scrutiny we gave Activ Hydrate. Judge the electrolyte tablet on what is above. Judge the rest of the range on the certification claim alone, and nothing more, until someone reads those labels too.

Who Owns Healthspan Elite

Electrolyte product image 6

Healthspan Elite trades under Healthspan Ltd, a company registered in Guernsey (No. 19775) at Healthspan House, St Peter Port, Guernsey GY1 2QH. Its UK VAT number for UK sales is GB 233818604. Because the company is Guernsey-registered rather than incorporated in England and Wales, you will not find it on Companies House, and no founder is named on the site.

Healthspan Elite is the sports-nutrition line. Healthspan's main-range magnesium supplement sits under the separate parent Healthspan brand, and it is a different product entirely from Activ Hydrate.

Healthspan has a documented history of upheld ASA rulings, including cases in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. We did not find an upheld ruling more recent than that in the public record. One case was informally resolved on 15 November 2023, and the ASA's public record does not state the subject.

What Customers Say

Feefo rates the Healthspan Elite merchant at 4.4 from 336 reviews. Individual Activ Hydrate product ratings run higher but on small samples: Berry sits at 4.9 and Citrus at 4.6, combining reviews left on both the Elite store and the parent Healthspan store. Trustpilot tells you a different story for the Elite storefront specifically, where healthspanelite.co.uk carries only three reviews at 2.8, against 4.5 from 2,829 reviews on the parent healthspan.co.uk.

The recurring complaint in the quotes above is flavour strength and incomplete dissolving, which lines up with the label: Activ Hydrate is a single effervescent tablet rather than a pre-dissolved sachet, and the brand's own 2026 "improved formula" note admits the previous version left residue. The other recurring complaint, on the parent store, is customer service, including subscription cancellation, and it shows up often enough to be worth flagging before you subscribe rather than buy once.

Is It Worth the Money?

At £16.99 for forty tablets, Activ Hydrate costs £0.42 a dose. Subscribe and Save brings that to £14.99, or £0.37 a tablet. Both prices match across Healthspan Elite's own site and the parent healthspan.co.uk (GBP, pulled 15 September 2026), and both are the cheapest serving cost in Balance Journal's entire 22-brand electrolyte ranking.

That price buys you a tested tablet with a genuine WADA-substance screen and a real sports partnership behind it. It does not buy you a clean label. If price is your only filter, this wins. If a shorter ingredient list matters to you as much as cost, look further up our ranking before you commit to a subscription.

Activ Hydrate vs SiS GO Hydro vs NutritionX Hydra 10 vs Free Soul

Activ Hydrate sits in the bottom third of our ranking, and these are the three brands either side of it, so you can see the range of what £0.40 to £1 a serving buys you.

Brand (Pillar Rank)SweetenerWhat We KnowPrice
Healthspan Elite Activ Hydrate (20th)SucraloseSorbitol and polyethylene glycol also present; sodium from sodium hydrogen carbonate£0.42 (£0.37 subscribed)
SiS GO Hydro (19th)SucraloseThe other Informed Sport tablet in our ranking that uses an artificial sweetenerSee our SiS GO Hydro review
NutritionX Hydra 10 (21st)Not covered in this reviewInformed Sport certified; a carbohydrate hydration drink rather than a plain electrolyte tabletFull review pending
Free Soul (11th)NoneNo sucralose; 1,000 mg sodium per serving£1.08

One brand in our ranking beats all of these on formulation, and it is the one I use myself. REPOWR is Balance Journal's number one for raw salt quality precisely because it skips the sweetener and filler ingredients that put Activ Hydrate at 20. It earns its place because it is the cleanest label I have found in this category, not because it is the cheapest.

Four tablets a day at 300 mg of sodium each totals 1,200 mg of sodium from Activ Hydrate alone. The Government Dietary Recommendations 2016 set a daily sodium reference of 2.4g for adults, and the NHS advises no more than 6g of salt a day, which works out at roughly 2.4g of sodium. We are not telling you how many tablets to take. We are giving you the numbers so you can work that out for yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Healthspan Elite a good brand?
Healthspan Elite is a legitimate, Guernsey-registered sports nutrition brand with real partnerships behind it, including British Athletics and the All Blacks. Its flagship electrolyte, Activ Hydrate, ranks 20th of 22 brands in Balance Journal's electrolyte framework because the label carries sucralose, sorbitol and polyethylene glycol. It is honest and tested, not clean.
Who is Healthspan Elite for?
Healthspan Elite works for drug-tested athletes who need an Informed Sport tablet, and for anyone training on a tight budget who wants the cheapest serving in this category. It is not the right choice if you want a sweetener-free electrolyte, since Activ Hydrate contains sucralose, sorbitol and polyethylene glycol on its label.
Are Healthspan Elite products worth the money?
At £0.42 a tablet, or £0.37 subscribed, Activ Hydrate is the cheapest serving in Balance Journal's 22-brand electrolyte ranking. That price buys genuine WADA-substance testing and a real sports partnership, but not a clean label. If cost matters more to you than ingredient purity, it is worth the money. If it does not, better formulations sit further up our ranking.
What has happened to Healthspan?
Healthspan continues trading as Healthspan Ltd, a company registered in Guernsey (No. 19775), with Healthspan Elite operating as its sports-nutrition line on a separate site, healthspanelite.co.uk. Both the parent brand and the Elite line remain active and selling in the UK, under a single UK VAT registration held by Healthspan Ltd.
Is Healthspan a British company?
Healthspan Ltd is registered in Guernsey, not England and Wales, so you will not find it on UK Companies House. It holds a UK VAT number, GB 233818604, for UK sales, and it supplies British Athletics as official sports nutrition supplier and partners with the All Blacks, giving it substantial UK sporting ties despite the Guernsey registration.
Is Healthspan Elite Informed Sport certified?
Yes. Healthspan Elite states that every batch of its products is tested by Informed Sport for WADA-banned substances, and Activ Hydrate carries a current batch certificate to prove it: batch F170203, analysed 8 October 2024, valid until 31 July 2026. That certificate document states the product has been certified since 22 March 2017. Informed Sport screens for banned substances only, not heavy metals or general purity.
How much sodium is in Healthspan Elite Activ Hydrate?
Each Activ Hydrate tablet contains 300 mg of sodium, sourced from sodium hydrogen carbonate rather than table salt. The label also lists 100 mg of potassium, 40 mg of calcium and 20 mg of magnesium per tablet, and the brand permits up to four tablets a day dissolved in 500 ml of water each.
Does Activ Hydrate contain sugar or sweetener?
Activ Hydrate is sweetened with sucralose, an artificial sweetener, and also lists sorbitol as a bulking agent. Sugar and carbohydrate figures are not published on the ingredient label we reviewed, so an exact sugar content cannot be confirmed for you. Both sucralose and sorbitol count against the formulation in Balance Journal's purity framework.
How many Activ Hydrate tablets can you take a day?
Healthspan Elite's label instructs you to dissolve one tablet in 500 ml of water and permits up to four tablets a day. That upper limit is the brand's own guidance rather than a medical recommendation, and this review does not offer dosing advice beyond restating what the label states.
